The JMACITI, with its eight sector Working Groups, is mandated to hold a series of discussion groups to share information and ideas to take the relationship forward as well as market entry and operational challenges. The challenges will be shared with the Trade Ministers and Advisory Councils in each country with a view to addressing them and improving the ease of doing business.
In South Africa, the JMACITI rollout started with meetings of four of the sector groups – Financial Services, Energy, Manufacturing & Logistics and Digital Economy.
The other four – Auto Sector, Agro-Processing, Tourism and Services – will meet in Phase 2 of the rollout in the second half of 2023 and first quarter of 2024.
The Binational Commission of South Africa and Nigeria will meet in Johannesburg in November 2023, with a business forum and JMACITI meetings to be arranged on the sidelines of the government-to-government meeting.
The Trade Ministers of the two countries are expected to meet before the year end as per the JMACITI mandate to reflect on the outcomes of the working group discussions.
